Bilingual Pharmacy Technician

About the Role

Functions as support to Tria Health’s mission of taking care of patients with chronic conditions to maximize health outcomes. The Pharmacy Technicians work in coordination with Pharmacists, the Member Advocate department, and any other stakeholders to encourage coordination of care for our patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive new patients into the system, including complete medication histories in English and Spanish while ensuring seamless engagement through the system.

  • Provide support for clinical programs, including establishing relationships with patients and other health care providers.

  • Provide direct patient care and care coordination for Tria patients in English and in Spanish.

  • Make outbound telephone calls with patients and other healthcare practitioners in English and in Spanish.

  • Answer patients’ copay/benefit questions for the pharmacists as needed.

  • Act as an information resource for patients, clients, brokers, TPAs, and other internal staff members.

  • Develop and process required reporting on a scheduled and “as needed” basis

  • Manage data for patients, including laboratory data, appointments, and medications. 

  • Oversee Ancillary Programs - Adherence letters, Affordable medication program, Med safety alerts (drug –drug interactions), Clinical alerts

  • Answer overflow of incoming calls as support for the Member Advocate department.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Competencies:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish.

  • Direct patient care experience, face to face or telephonic, is highly desired.

  • Basic medication knowledge, including common medication dosing, and medication use is required.

  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Write  routine reports and correspondence in English and Spanish.

  • Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest,  proportions, and percentages.

  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Pharmacy technician experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy is required.

  • Confidence in communicating with other health-care providers such as physicians and nurses is required. 

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel), Database software, E-mail, and Internet. 

  • Current pharmacy technician license in the state of Missouri is required for initial employment and a CPhT license is required for continued employment

  • Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to stand, bend, kneel, sit, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.  The vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Individual must occasionally lift and/or move up to 5 pounds.

  • Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment where standard office equipment such as computer, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, and printers are utilized. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.

  • Office Hours: This position will work a 5-day workweek with 3 evening shifts per week.  Day shifts are 8:00 -4:30 PM and evening shifts are 12:30 – 9:00 PM. May be asked to work an occasional Saturday if business needs arise (overtime). 

  • Location: Tria Health is in Kansas City, MO (Crossroads neighborhood).  A hybrid office schedule is allowed after training.
